From our friends at PopTonic:

Jimmy Eat World is playing their first show in more than a year — virtually, of course.

The critically acclaimed alternative rock band have announced a new livestream series, and the first installment streams this week.

On January 15th, Jimmy Eat World launches Phoenix Sessions, a global stream performance series consisting of three different dates. The title of the series is fitting, considering the performances are being filmed at the Icehouse in downtown Phoenix — just a little down the road from Mesa, AZ, where Jimmy Eat World formed.

The Phoenix Sessions Includes Three Nights of Performances

The ticketed three-night event will see the band perform a different album in full for each show. Each of these performances are “chapters” from their storied career.

“We are always looking for ways to challenge ourselves, to do things as music fans that we think would be cool for OUR fans. We came up with the idea of presenting a series of concert films centered around a few specific albums (for now) and performing them on a different level,” said the band’s lead vocalist and guitarist, Jim Adkins.

“It isn’t the way we normally play a show and it’s definitely something new for how we approach a performance, but we haven’t been able to share the experience with our fans in over a year… so here we go!”

The series kicks off this week, with Jimmy Eat World playing their latest album: last year’s Surviving. Aside from some lucky fans who managed to catch the band in October 2019, this will be the first time for many fans to hear the new material live. This is, of course, because the band’s “Criminal Energy Tour” was canceled due to the pandemic.

The other two performances will be made up of classic album performances. Jimmy Eat World will deliver their fan-favorite Futures on January 29th for the second installment. They will then drop the acclaimed Clarity on fans February 12th.

No, Bleed American didn’t make the cut. I think we all heard “The Middle” enough on TRL, right?

Tickets for the series are on sale now. You can pick up a single show, or swing for the Mesa Bundle, which includes all three shows. Other bundles, including merchandise and VIP meet and greets are also available.

The Phoenix Sessions Will Benefit Vulnerable Music Venues

From now until January 14th — the day before the show — $1 from every ticket purchase will be donated to the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) Emergency Relief Fund. NIVA’s relief fund was created to raise money for vulnerable venues that are under threat of closing, thanks to the pandemic.

Although the Save Our Stages Act was passed as part of a COVID-19 Relief Bill, NIVA is working with the Small Business Administration “to ensure the emergency relief is dispersed as Congress intended.”

NIVA also acknowledges that it could take a while before that funding is dispersed. They’ve continued to raise money for their Emergency Relief Fund to assist venues at risk as quickly as possible.

The Phoenix Sessions begins on January 15th with Surviving (Chapter X). Futures (Chapter V) will drop on January 29th, and Clarity (Chapter III) will stream on February 12th. Each show will stream at 5 pm ET (2 pm PT). You can replay it any time for 72 hours after that.
