From our friends at PopTonic:
If you loved Grimes’ album Miss Anthropocene, you’ll be stoked to hear she’s doing it again.
The musician has announced a Miss Anthropocene remix album is on the way, and it’s arriving very soon.
Get ready to ring in the new year with new tunes. The album, Miss Anthropocene Rave Edition is set for release on January 1st. That means you can kick off 2021 with reworked tracks by longtime Grimes collaborator BloodPop®, plus contributions from Channel Tres, Richie Hawtin, Modeselektor, and more.
The album also features two remixes that Grimes recently premiered in a 17-track DJ mix. The mixtape was released in celebration of the long-awaited launch of Cyberpunk 2077, in which Grimes voiced the character, Lizzy Wizzy. Grimes dropped the companion mixtape exclusively through Apple Music under the guise of her in-game character, and it also featured several remixes of tracks off Miss Anthropocene.
Miss Anthropocene Rave Edition
Grimes released her fifth album, Miss Anthropocene, back in February 2020. It was five years after her critically acclaimed fourth album Art Angels. Perhaps that extra time is exactly what she needed, because Miss Anthropocene has seen plenty of positive reviews this year. In fact, the album has been regarded as one of the best to drop in 2020. It’s been featured on lists such as Pitchfork’s “The 50 Best Albums of 2020,” “The 10 Best Albums of 2020” from Time, and NME’s “The 50 Best Albums of 2020.”
Earlier this month, she also swapped out the artwork featured on the album cover for Miss Anthropocene.
The artwork that you’ll find now featured across streaming platforms was actually the musician’s original choice. She commissioned it from one of her “favourite artists,” Rupid Leejm. According to her, she changed her mind after asking others if she should use it, but she regretted not going with her first choice.
Grimes said that while she loved the release-day artwork done by GMUNK and Ryder Ripps — no shade to what they came up with — it just wasn’t her first choice.
“This was the original Miss Anthropocene album cover which I commissioned from one of my *favourite artists [Rupid Leejm],” she explained in an Instagram post back in April.
“I polled a bunch of ppl and everyone said not to use it (??),” she explained about her decision. “But I wish I trusted my gut. I f*cking LOVE this painting.”
As for the release-day artwork, Grimes said that she loves “what we did w Ryder and GMUNK.” She’s not throwing any shade, here.
“Not hating on that just wish I’d even kept this as the illustration in the program,” she clarified.
You can snag Grimes’ new album, Miss Anthropocene Rave Edition, on January 1st, 2021.
