Jonathan Rhys Meyers might be hanging with his old demons again, because the actor was busted for driving under the influence.
The Tudors star was arrested and jailed after getting into a car crash in Malibu over the weekend.
According to TMZ, law enforcement received a call around 5 pm Sunday concerning a solo, minor car accident. But when police showed up to the scene, 43-year-old Meyers showed signs of being intoxicated.
It is unclear what led to the solo crash, but I’ve got a few theories.
Anyway, the cops ultimately gave Jonathan a field sobriety test. Clearly, the star didn’t pass.
Meyers reportedly blew “well past” the legal limit for alcohol. He was arrested for misdemeanor DUI and taken into custody. TMZ also reported that the actor remains behind bars.
There has been no word from Meyers’ rep. However, his wife, Mara Lane, appeared to allude to her husband’s recent arrest on her Instagram.
On Tuesday, Mara posted videos of their son, Wolf, playing with Meyers in the pool.
“I feel since so many of our lowlights seem to find their way on the web, fair to share some happy moments so when Wolf is older, he can search/find/see/remember the happiest,” she captioned the video.
This is not Meyers’ first struggle with substance abuse.
His battle with alcoholism has been well documented over the years. He has also had several stints in rehab before now. The actor first checked into a center in Malibu back in 2005 seeking treatment for alcohol abuse. He returned for treatment again a couple of times, in both 2007 and 2009.
In 2009, the star was detained in Paris by French police because he allegedly assaulted an airport lounge employee while drunk. In November 2011, Meyers was ordered by a French court to pay a restitution of €1,000 and was given a judgment of a suspended sentence for public intoxication 24 months earlier.
He was again spotted drinking in public in 2015 when photos surfaced of him on a street drinking a bottle of vodka. Meyers publicly apologized to fans, but relapsed again in 2017 following his wife’s miscarriage.
Most recently, Meyers was detained at LAX following a “domestic dispute” with his wife aboard an American Airlines flight. He was on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles with his wife, Mara, and their then one-year-old son Wolf.
