The Queen of Christmas has spoken: it’s officially the most wonderful time of the year.
Mariah Carey herself, whose fan base has dubbed the songstress the “Queen of Christmas,” is ready to jump into holiday festivities already. Halloween was so two days ago.
Carey, took to Instagram to make the announcement. She posted an adorable and festive video to let the world know that it’s time for the annual holly jolly holiday.
The short clip starts out with a ghoulish, masked person making their way through Carey’s home. Very spooky! The ghoul finds their way to a door covered in cobwebs and handprints. The words “NOT YET are scribbled above the door knob.
When the masked ghoul opens the door, though, there are no more spooky surprises inside. In fact, it’s Mariah Carey herself.
The “All I Want for Christmas Is You” singer is situated in a Christmas-themed room, complete with cozy white blankets of “snow” on the floor. She’s sitting on the floor next to a set of glittery, decorated trees, and is accompanied by her adorable pups. Carey herself is decked out in Christmas pajamas, while her dogs are also festive in red.
She looks at her watch before declaring, “It’s time!” with cheer.
As she jingles a bell and the camera moves past her, a message displays for viewers that reads, “It’s Time! (But let’s get through Thanksgiving first)”
Carey’s loyal legion of fans — known as her Lambily — were certainly quick to express their excitement in the comments.
“The queen has spoken,” one fan wrote, accompanied by a Christmas tree emoji. Another commented, “We are READY, dahling! Get festive!”
Even Jennifer Hudson got in on the comments, writing, “No need, let’s go! My Christmas music starts today!”
“Mariah gearing up for that number one… again lol,” one user commented. This is likely in reference to her biggest Christmas hit, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” managing to top the Billboard Hot 100 last year, 25 years after its original release.
On December 25, 2018, the song set the single-day record for the most Spotify streams with 10.82 million plays. And while that might sound like a lot, the song re-broke its own record exactly a year later with 12.029 million streams in a single day.
A month ago, Carey shared a photo on Insta that had fans buzzing about a possible holiday collab. The photo featured three chairs from what looked like some kind of music video set, and the middle chair had the initials “MC” embroidered on the back. The other two also had initials on them: “AG” and “JH.” It was captioned simply with a Christmas tree emoji.
Social media users flooded the comments trying to guess who the chairs were for. “MC” is obvious — Mariah Carey herself.
But what about the other two? Fans are convinced the initials stand for Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson. The fact that Hudson was commenting on Carey’s other post makes this seem pretty likely, if you ask me.
Back in August, Apple announced a holiday special starring Carey for its streaming service, called Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special. It’s possible that the snap Carey shared was from the set for this special. It is supposed to feature multiple surprise guests, too, so will we be seeing Grande and Hudson on Apple TV+? Maybe so!
