Khloé Kardashian was quick to defend sister Kim Kardashian’s surprise 40th birthday getaway, when she visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, October 29.
When talking about the trip, she told Ellen, “We didn’t find out until on the plane. And it was so special.” They of course speculated about the mystery destination, but they were only told to bring “three nice outfits for dinners or something like that.”
“Other than that we had no idea,” she said. “It was the coolest experience to be that surprised.”
In case you somehow missed it, Kim K surprised her “closest inner circle with a trip to a private island,” according to the reality star herself. She assured fans that everyone who joined her on the trip had quarantined and undergone “multiple health screens” prior to flying out.
Khloé Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, Scott Disick, Tristan Thompson, Rob Kardashian, and Kendall Jenner were among the family members who attended the birthday bash. Kim’s hubby, Kanye West, was noticeably absent from any photos. But US Weekly reported that Kanye did show up for the last few days of the trip.
I’m sure it was really cool to be surprised with a trip to a private island, but Kim and the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan have caught a lot of flack for their vacation getaway. I mean, it’s not like we’re in the middle of a pandemic or anything.
Social media users were quick to call the famous fam out on their privilege as the U.S. entered its third wave of deadly cases.
“Wow so fun,” one person tweeted. “my family still hasn’t met my six month old baby but I’m glad you’re rich!”
Another tweet reads, “Wow. Lucky you. Thanks for showing off your way awesome life to us unfortunate people who are still quarantined and our kids are still out of in person school and PEOPLE ARE DYING!! But sure, brag away. Disgusting.”
It wasn’t just us regular people, either. Among those criticizing Kim K’s vacay was none other than old school rock star Peter Frampton.
“Are you that insensitive you don’t realise this is not what the majority of people during the worst covid spike yet want to hear?” Frampton tweeted. “People are going to food banks not private islands.”
Anyway, Khloé didn’t see anything wrong with their big birthday celebration.
“I haven’t heard a lot about it, but I did hear that people were upset that we all went out of town [but] I don’t really know the extent of it,” she claimed. “But this year is a frustrating year. I get it. I think there’s so many frustrations going on for everybody, but also, it’s her 40th. This is something she really wanted to do for us… it was such a nice thing.”
Khloé added that the group felt “so safe” during their private island getaway.
“All of the precautions and everything that we took, and being there and how grateful everyone was for the tourist aspect of it. So many people said that we were their first party or guests that they’ve had in months and what it’s done for them to be able to pay their bills or do stuff for their family,” Khloé added. “Just hearing those messages when we were there, we felt really good.”
You hear that? The Kardashian-Jenner private island birthday bash made them feel really good. Cue the eyerolls from quarantine.
