T.I. Used to Check His Daughter’s Privates

T.I. said in a podcast from early November that he goes with his daughter to the gynecologist to “check her hymen.”

The rap superstar said, “as of her 18th birthday, her hymen is still intact.”

As the world collectively cringed, poor Deyjah took a step back from social media to process.

Dads Are the Worst, Right?

As any daughter would, Deyjah liked tweets that criticized her dad’s comments after the incident. She also stopped following him on Instagram and Twitter––a major burn.

But he deserved it.

Dads are known to accidentally humiliate their daughters on a regular basis; it’s just the nature of being a father. But not everyone has a dad as famous as T.I.

His decision to discuss his daughter’s sexual health in public is already crossing a line, but the admission of “checking her hymen?” That’s straight up weird, invasive, and sexist, and people across the country called him out for it.

T.I. Faces Critics After Hymen Backlash

The artist behind “Whatever You Like” and “Live Your Life” spoke on the matter during a recent episode of Red Table Talk with Jada Pinkett Smith.

“I came to clear up any misconceptions that have been surrounding how we interact and parent and what is appropriate and inappropriate,” he said.

He continued, “All of this surrounds a conversation that I was having in a very joking manner, when asked how do I deal with parenting in this day and age. And so I just began to, you know…embellish and exaggerate.”

“People kind of like took it extremely literal,” he went on. “If you put any of my reputation about like who I am as a father, who I’ve been, I honestly thought people knew me better than that.”

He clarified that the hymen checks no longer occur, but they used to. Allllllrighty then.

T.I. continued, “My intentions, I think, have been terribly misconstrued…let me go set this record straight. I never said I was in any exam room..and I never said that her mother wasn’t present…Her mom was present every time.”

He also said that he was extremely sorry to Deyjah.
