Rap sensation Lizzo has been making headlines left and right. From her sleeper hits that are bouncing back into the charts to her colorful and open personality, it’s hard to not root for her success.
It seems like 50 Cent (Yes, of “In da Club” fame) has taken notice of Lizzo, and that he is doing what Lizzo encourages in her lyrics to “Truth Hurts.”
50 is shooting his shot. But is it going to land?
50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, has been around for a long time in the music world. At 45 years old, he started his career in the early 2000s after Eminem discovered him and signed him to Shady Records.
Lizzo (real name Melissa Viviane Jefferson), 32, came into the game a little later than 50. Her first two albums came out in 2013 and 2015, but she didn’t see major success until this year when Cuz I Love You dropped in April.
The rising popularity of “Truth Hurts” and “Juice” off of that album made people take a closer look at Coconut Oil, her previous studio album from 2016. Despite the record being 3 years old, “Good as Hell” has also recently touched the top of the charts.
In short: 50 Cent hasn’t been relevant for a long time in mainstream music. Lizzo is at the peak of her career, and everyone loves her. So do these two make sense as a couple?
50’s thirsty, and it isn’t for that sparkle water, either. But this isn’t the first time this rap superstar has interacted with Lizzo or expressed his… appreciation, for her.
Two years ago, in 2017, Lizzo tweeted “If you could ask 50 cent any question… what would it be?”
Later, she tweeted a picture of the two together, saying that she asked him “everything y’all told me to”. Questions fans asked included “can you sign me?”, “50, who’s your favorite Pokemon?”, and “If I didn’t smell so good would you still hug me?”.

Beyond that, there isn’t a lot of information. Did the two hook up at some point in 2017? Is Lizzo just a huge fan of his?
50 is currently halfway across the world touring in New Zealand and Australia (yeah, we didn’t know 50 still toured, either), but that hasn’t stopped him from trying to make contact with Lizzo.
He tweeted a video of Lizzo in some very revealing red lingerie, complete with red patent leather boots. She’s clearly posing for a still camera, but she is gyrating and rolling her body in a… well, let’s say a suggestive manner.
50’s comments on the video include “Now that’s the love boat”, and “you can’t Handel it.” That typo courtesy of his own account, though in his defense he immediately tweeted that his spell check was not working. For a moment, we were hoping that he was somehow making a pun about the Baroque composer George Frideric Handel.
He ends the tweet with “Big Sexy.” Is that a compliment?
Lizzo is clearly appreciating the attention from 50 Cent because she retweeted his post very quickly. Now, in fairness, Lizzo is very active on social media, so she probably saw the post right away.
Fans of both stars are going crazy online, speculating that they could be the next major rap hook up. What kind of music could they make together?! It could be magic.
There’s zero word right now on if they actually are a “thing,” have been a “thing” in the past, or have any intentions of developing a “thing”… but if this tweet is any indication, at least one side of the equation would be interested.
50’s been in the media a lot lately for bankruptcy issues, hiding money, and once last year for revenge porn, so for Lizzo’s sake we hope she knows what she’s getting into and that 50 Cent can clean up his act for this queen.
