It’s been four long years since Rihanna released an album.
But it looks like the wait might be over soon — the pop star is reportedly working hard on recording new music!
I have to admit, I’m excited to see what she’s been working on, especially because she says she just wants to “have fun with music.”
The 32-year-old singer told The Associated Press that for her new album, she’s already held “tons of writing camps,” where songwriters are put into groups to create original tracks for artists. It’s like a collaborative songwriting process that tons of artists use, in case you’re unfamiliar with the process.
But now, Rihanna is asking herself the important questions: “What do I feel personally? What do I want to put out, and as an artist, how do I want to play it with my art? How do I want to interpret that?”
In the past, Rihanna has won Grammys in the R & B, dance, and rap categories.
“You do pop, you did this genre, you do that, you do radio. But now it’s just like, what makes me happy?” the singer said in a recent interview. “I just want to have fun with music.”
Rihanna continued, “Everything is so heavy. The world that we live in is a lot. It’s overwhelming every single day. And with the music, I’m using that as my outlet.”
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has made many things challenging — including many aspects of the music industry. Rihanna says she plans to press on, despite the struggles.
“I want to go on tour but I can’t, so I’m stuck with music that I love, and now I’m trying to figure out how I can even create visuals to that,” the singer said. “That’s a challenge as well. But I love challenges so, you know, I’m gonna get it done.”
The pop star’s last album was released in 2016: ANTI. It was Rihanna’s eighth album. The critically acclaimed effort launched plenty of hits, like “Work,” “Needed Me,” “Love on the Brain,” and more.
Overall, Rihanna has achieved a whopping 14 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart since her debut in 2005. She’s had 31 Top 10 hits on the charts, too.
Rihanna’s last album may have been four years ago, but she’s been keeping pretty busy regardless.
She has had plenty of guest appearances on other artists’ work, like DJ Khaled’s “Wild Thoughts,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Loyalty,” Future’s “Selfish,” and N.E.R.D.’s “Lemon.”
Of course, she’s had plenty of non-music projects on her plate, too. She’s been super busy with her successful makeup and fashion lines.
In fact, Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty underwear and lingerie line just dropped its Vol. 2 show for Fall 2020.
Released exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, the likes of Paris Hilton, Lizzo, Willow Smith, Bella Hadid, and even Demi Moore appear in barely-there underthings. It also features musical performances from Travis Scott, Bad Bunny, and Rosalia.
