Nipsey Hussle’s Family Fighting Over the Late Rapper’s Estate

On March 31 of last year, beloved hip-hop icon and activist Nipsey Hussle was shot dead outside his own clothing store in Los Angeles.

Now his family is fighting to ensure that Hussle’s two children are able to inherit his $2 million estate.

A Tale of Two Baby Mamas

The issue is that Nipsey Hussle (born Ermias Asghedom) had two kids by two different women, neither of whom he married. Not trying to shame anyone, but his situation has made things legally complicated.

Hussle’s overall estate is under the guardianship of his brother, Blacc Sam. He wanted to ensure that, given the “significant media attention” following the murder, that any business opportunities based on Nipsey Hussle’s ” likeness, right of publicity, and other intellectual property” were handled correctly. Considering how many projects, non-profits, and community revitalization efforts Nispey was working on, Blacc Sam better enroll in an accounting program if he’s going to take over.

Actress and model Lauren London (pictured below) was with Nipsey Hussle from 2013 until his death. She’s the mother of his three-year-old son, Kross Ermias Asghedom.

She has just been granted guardianship over Kross’s estate to ensure that she gets a say in how his future finances are managed. Reportedly, there’s no beef between Lauren and Hussle’s family.

The same can’t be said for the mother of Hussle’s daughter.

The other baby mama in play is Tanisha Foster. Their daughter Emani was very close with her dad, attending the most recent Grammy Awards ceremony as his date.

Tanisha tried to get custody of her daughter after Hussle’s death, but she’s just been denied.

A judge has decided that 10-year-old Emani will stay with his immediate family rather than her birth mother. Hussle’s brother, sister, and mother will be Emani’s legal guardians.

She has been living with her aunt for several months because Hussle’s family claims Tanisha is “not fit” to care for Emani.

Death and Legacy

The alleged killer, Eric Holder, is facing life in prison. Holder claims that the shooting was motivated by accusations of snitching–we’ve seen how serious that is in the gang world during Tekashi 6ix9ine’s trial–but an eyewitness says that Hussle was actually trying to look out for Holder by giving him a warning.

Following Nipsey Hussle’s murder, fans and colleagues from the world of hip-hop were devastated. And many of them were motivated to continue the rapper’s philanthropic spirit.

Atlantic Records donated six figures to the Neighborhood Nip Foundation, a non-profit created by Hussle’s family.

A biography called The Marathon Don’t Stop is also slated to be published next year, just before the one-year anniversary of his death.
