2020 Billboard Music Awards Nominees: See Who Made the List

The wait is over, and the nominations are in!

Mark your calendars, music lovers — the Billboard Music Awards will air on Wednesday, October 14.

New Date for Billboard Music Awards Following Coronavirus Postponement

The annual awards show was originally scheduled to take place on April 29 in Las Vegas. It was initially supposed to be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

The awards show was another unfortunate victim of the coronavirus pandemic, though. Back in March, it was announced that the ceremony would be postponed.

The Billboard Music Awards will now broadcast live on October 14, at 8 pm EST on NBC. Kelly Clarkson will return to host for her third consecutive year.

“I’m thrilled to be back with my Billboard family,” Kelly said in a statement when it was first announced back in February that she would be hosting the awards show again. “I love being part of an event that celebrates our greatest artists and entertains our fans. This is a night of music that you won’t want to miss!”

Plans for how to make the show pandemic-friendly have not been revealed. But look, we’ve already seen with the Emmys that a virtual awards show is definitely possible. I’ll be interested to see if Billboard follows suit.

2020 Nominees Are In

We didn’t just get a date reveal, either. The 2020 crop of nominees were finally announced this week, too.

Post Malone is leading the pack with 16 nominations. Lil Nas X isn’t far behind with 13 nods, followed by Billie Eilish and Khalid, who are tied with 12 nods each. Lizzo picked up 11 nominations, and Kanye West snagged 9.

Plus, country legend Garth Brooks is set to receive this year’s icon award. He will be the ninth artist to ever receive the coveted title.

In case you were wondering (I know I was), the postponement didn’t have any effect on who picked up nominations. The awards will still be based on the chart period of March 23, 2019 through March 14, 2020.

The original eligibility period “will remain intact to recognize and honor the chart-topping artists and musical successes achieved and to maintain consistent tracking periods for future shows,” said Dick Clark Productions in a press release.
