Boy George has an interesting choice for who he’d like to play him in a biopic about his life.
The Culture Club singer recently confirmed that a film documenting his life is in the works. He also revealed that he’d like 23-year-old Sophie Turner to be cast in the lead role as his younger self.
British Vogue responded to the notion, saying that the Game of Thrones actress “should be flattered.” And, it turns out, she’s actually “SO down” to take on the role.
During an interview with Australian radio duo Fitzy and Wippa, the now 58-year-old English singer expressed his admiration for Turner.
He told the hosts that there’ve “been some really interesting suggestions” for who could play him in the biopic. He said that, of those, Turner – who played Sansa Stark on GoT – was “one of the most interesting.”
Some people – like Piers Morgan, apparently – might balk at the idea of a woman playing Boy George. However, she appears to be one of his favorites for the role.
“When I was 17, I would have loved to have been her,” Boy George said.
Morgan went off on his show over how he didn’t think a woman like Turner could play the singer. His reasoning? She “doesn’t have the equipment” to have film intimate scenes, he griped. (As if modern filmmaking hasn’t yet come this far.)
Musical biopics seem to be quite a thing these days, as we’ve seen with Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman. With the success of these recent films, it should come as little surprise that another would be in the works.
Originally announced in May, the Boy George biopic will be written and directed by Sacha Gervasi. It is unclear if it will be an adaptation of the artist’s 1995 biography Take It Like A Man or something new entirely.
Regardless, it will likely chronicle his humble beginnings to the trials and tribulations of the androgynous artist and opiate addict. We thoroughly expect to see his tabloid-dogged life and struggles with heroin addiction as focal points.
Whether or not it’ll star Turner is also here to be seen. However, she did tag the singer when she not only acknowledged the suggestion but also expressed interest in a Tweet.
Turner most recently appeared in Dark Phoenix, which was an overall disappointment at the box office. However, that doesn’t mean she lacks the acting chops to portray Boy George.
Most of the responses on Twitter show that quite a lot of people are actually on board with the idea.
“Dude,” said Twitter user MophieFan163, posting this image of the two side by side.
Yep, we can definitely picture this happening now.
