Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively Give $1 Mil to Coronavirus Causes

Hollywood super couple Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are doing their part to help feed those in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

The couple announced on Monday that they are donating $1 million to two different food non-profits. They want to help older adults and low income families who are impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively Donate $1 Million to Feeding America and Food Banks Canada

Ryan and Blake decided to give their donations to Feeding America and Food Banks Canada, two non-profits that help low income families and older adults that have been “brutally impacted” by the pandemic. They are donating a total of $1 million, which will be split between the two organizations.

Feeding America is a non-profit organization consisting of more than 200 food banks across the United States. They feed more than 46 million people through soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and other community-based agencies.

Food Banks Canada is similar, consisting of over 500 local food banks across Canada. And like Feeding America, it is a top charity to donate to help at a time when citizens’ ability to eat is uncertain in the face of business closure.

As people are isolating and quarantining across many countries to help contain the spread of the new virus, many businesses are closing temporarily, and some restaurants are switching to takeout and delivery only. This is leaving many of our more vulnerable without income for an indeterminate amount of time. It’s put a huge strain on food banks.

Ryan and Blake Hope Their Followers Will Follow Suit

The couple are hoping that their donation will just be the beginning. In a statement posted by both Blake and Ryan to their social media accounts, they both urge their followers to donate to these organizations, as they “need our help.”

“Take care of your bodies and hearts. Leave room for joy,” Ryan told his followers. “Call someone who’s isolated and might need connection.”

Ryan also took the time to crack a little joke, though, including, “Hugh Jackman’s # is 1-555-[single tear emoji]-Hugh,” as a reference to his long-standing humorous social media feud with the actor.

Blake reminded her followers to “remember the lonely and isolated,” encouraging fans to “Facetime, Skype, make a video” to stay connected with loved ones.

“Sending so much love,” she continued, but also couldn’t help but drop a little joke as well: “Now can someone please tell Ryan that “emotional distancing” from his mother in law is not a thing. Nothing can save him.”
