An Unconventional Marriage?

A year after getting married, Kaley Cuoco and Karl Cook still don’t live together.

“We’re building our dream house and we’re eventually going to be under the same roof forever,” Kaley told E! News on Tuesday. “We have a very unconventional marriage, you know. We have different locations that we’re at a lot. We’re not together every single day.”

Not to panic anyone, but the last time a celebrity described her marriage as “unconventional” it ended a few months later in what is proving to be a seriously nasty split. You don’t want to end up like Miley and Liam, Kelly!

They’re Not the Only Ones

The U.S. Census Bureau reports that about 4 million married couples currently live apart in the United States. While that’s only a small percentage of the whole, some studies have concluded that refusing to move in together might be better for your relationship.

We’ve come a long way since the very idea of a married couple sleeping in separate beds meant that their relationship was on the rocks. Standards are changing, and several high-profile couples in recent years have chosen to openly “live apart together.”

For 10 years, Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton lived next door to each other in connecting London townhouses. (Of course, he later cheated on her, but that’s not necessarily a result of their living situation.) Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker have a similar setup in New York.

Victoria and David Beckham reportedly have separate “his and hers” wings in their Oxfordshire home, while Julia Roberts and Danny Moder spend most of their time living in separate houses on the same rode in Malibu.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk got through the first year of their marriage spending 4 nights a week together, and she claims that it’s been perfect for them. “All my married friends say that the way we live sounds ideal and we shouldn’t change a thing,” Gwyneth said.

Freedom Comes with a Price Tag

It helps that all of these celebrities are super rich and can afford to keep separate households. As one of the wealthiest TV stars on the planet, former Big Bang Theory star Kaley can buy a different mansion to stay in every night of the week.

It’s also interesting to note that both Kaley and Gwyneth are negotiating a second marriage after their first one fell apart. Maybe these ladies are onto something–taking things slow, even after you tie the knot, might just be the secret to a long and happy marriage. If you can afford it.
