Dax Shepard is all in one piece following an awful motorcycle accident, but the crash left him in need of surgery.
The incident left the Parenthood star with multiple injuries, including four broken ribs.
During a recent installment of the actor’s Armchair Expert podcast, Dax opened up about the accident.
The 45-year-old actor revealed that he needs surgery after the crash, which occurred on a racetrack in California.
“I was passing six guys at Sonoma Raceway on a motorcycle and I was braking very, very hard. Hard enough that the back wheel was off the ground for a good 100 yards,” Dax recalled.
“I was totally to blame. I thought I would be able to slide in between, but someone turned in and I was already under full break and I couldn’t go anywhere,” he continued.
That’s when the actor “clipped their bumper,” which sent him “over the handlebars.” He admitted that he “landed pretty hard.”
Dax called the motorcycle accident a “little demoralizing,” considering it was his first time at that particular race track. He also admitted that he was reprimanded by track employees.
“They really let me have it and I was too injured to object,” the actor revealed. “So I just took it on the chin.”
Despite the collision, Dax wasn’t done riding. So, he went back on the track for more after icing his shoulder and hand.
By the end, though, it was too painful to continue.
But get this: the actor didn’t hit the ER to get checked out. He instead went home, and actually waited until the next day before seeking medical attention.
Dax spent a total of seven hours at the hospital that following day. That’s when he learned the severity of his injuries.
“The final tally was four broken ribs, the clavicle’s broken in three places, and I need surgery,” he told fans. Ouch!
The actor also said, “And then I broke my hand that I’d broke a couple of months ago.”
He’s referring to an incident from back in May, when he broke several fingers while off-roading with a friend.
He joked that this was the “good news” of his accident, considering the severity of the other injuries.
The actor admitted that he felt “very bad” and “guilty” because the incident likely scared his wife, actress Kristen Bell, and his podcast co-host and friend, Monica Padman.
Does that mean no more motorcycles for Dax? Probably not.
“I don’t think I’m going to quit,” Dax said. “But I think I might be willing to quit for the remainder of 2020.”
