Hayden Panettiere’s ex-boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, is now facing serious criminal charges in California.
This comes only days after Hayden also got an order of protection against him.
The 30-year-old actress filed to register an out-of-state restraining order she obtained against Brian. She was asking the court to enforce the terms of the protective order in Los Angeles.
A California judge granted the restraining order, according to reports.
Her filing comes nearly five months after her allegedly abusive ex was arrested on Valentine’s Day.
The Teton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance between him and a 30-year-old female. It took place at a private residence in Jackson, Wyoming.
He allegedly punched the Nashville star “with a closed fist on the right side of her face.”
Now, law enforcement sources told TMZ that officials charged Brian Thursday in an 8-count complaint. It includes domestic violence charges, assault charges, and other felony offenses.
Hayden recently reported her abusive ex to the Teton County Sheriff in Wyoming. She also reported him to both the Santa Monica police and the Los Angeles Police Department. The reports include multiple incidents over their year-and-a-half-long relationship, involving extreme domestic violence against her.
“I am coming forward with the truth about what happened to me with the hope that my story will empower others in abusive relationships to get the help they need and deserve,” Hayden said. She continued to say she will “do [her] part to make sure this man never hurts anyone again.”
Panettiere also noted that she is grateful for her support system. She said her loved ones helped her find the courage to speak out.
A source close to the actress says that she’s been taking part in treatment for alcohol abuse issues. She is focusing on sobriety, healing, and recovery.
“After suffering for years as the victim of psychological, emotional, and severe physical abuse, Hayden Panettiere has begun the process of taking back her life,” Hayden’s attorney, Alan Jackson, said of his client. “Hayden has found the strength and courage to share the truth about her abuse and her abuser, and she intends to assist the prosecution to see that justice is served.”
He continued, “As a survivor, she recognizes that her arduous journey of healing has just begun.”
