Kelly Preston has died after losing her battle with breast cancer.
The Jerry Maguire actress was 57 years old.
Preston, an “adored wife and mother,” passed away on Sunday morning following a two-year battle with breast cancer, a family representative told People magazine.
“Choosing to keep her fight private, she had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, supported by her closest family and friends,” said the representative.
“She was a bright, beautiful and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched,” the family rep continued. “Her family asks for your understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”
The actress’ family mourns, including husband John Travolta, and their children: Ella Bleu, 20; and Benjamin, 9. Their first son, Jett, died at the age of 16 in January 2009.
Travolta also announced his wife’s death with a post on Instagram late Sunday.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer,” he wrote alongside a photo of his wife of 28 years. “She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.”
“My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side. Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered,” Travolta continued. “I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and moths ahead as we heal. All my love, JT.”
Preston and Travolta wed during a midnight ceremony in Paris in 1991. This was after their New York City wedding plans “got so big and so crazy.”
Preston was two months pregnant with their first son at the time. The couple also had another ceremony on U.S. soil in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Just last September, the couple celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary.
Preston stared in classics such as Jerry Maguire, Twins, and For the Love of the Game.
Her final film role was in 2018’s Gotti. In it, she played the wife of Mafia boss John Gotti (who was played by Travolta).
