Do you recognize that voice? These famous actors and musicians loaned their voices to cartoon characters. How many of them did you know about?
Before he was Groot, Vin Diesel voiced the Iron Giant in the tear-jerking cartoon from Brad Bird. Also, Vin was once a semi-professional breakdancer and is a huge nerd who loves to play Dungeons & Dragons and World of Warcraft. He contains multitudes!
This cheesy 90s cartoon with an environmental message nabbed some big-name guest stars, including Sting, Meg Ryan, Martin Sheen, and Jeff Goldblum.
In addition, LeVar Burton voiced Kwame in all 113 episodes, while Whoopi Goldberg was on board as Gaia for the show’s first 2 seasons.
You might not know this, but Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas was a child star. She voiced Sally Brown–Charlie Brown’s annoying kid sister–in three Peanuts TV movies back in the 1980s.
Another one-named wonder, the Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist voiced Donnie Thornberry in The Wild Thornberrys series on Nickelodeon. He reprised his role in multiple TV movies as well. His co-star, the legendary Tim Curry, has voiced dozens of cartoon characters as well.
Speaking of Tim Curry, here’s a bit of trivia that’ll blow your mind. Richard O’Brien, who wrote and starred in The Rocky Horror Picture Show along with Curry, was the voice of Phineas and Ferb’s dad! Curry also guest-starred a few times on Phineas and Ferb.
Did you know that Mila Kunis has voiced Meg Griffin for almost the entire run of Family Guy? She’s credited with 315 episodes and counting of the comedy. While some animators model characters off the actors who voice them, that’s clearly not the case with poor, frumpy Meg.
Oscar winner JK Simmons–you probably know him from Whiplash, or maybe his long-running role as Will Pope on The Closer–is also the voice of the yellow M&M. In addition, the renowned character actor also does those Farmers Insurance commercials.
Although he’ll always be best known for his role as Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill has a reputation for being a fantastic voice actor as well. He voiced The Joker in Batman: The Animated Series as well as many other projects since the early 90s.
