Did Britney Spears really just beat a world record? That’s what she’s claiming, although some fans are questioning her about it.
In 2009, Usain Bolt set the world record for the 100-meter sprint. He crossed the finish line in just 9.58 seconds, which is incredibly impressive. The women’s world record for the same distance hasn’t been beaten since 1988, when Florence Griffith-Joyner took 10.49 seconds to accomplish the feat.
But Britney? She says she’s got both of them beat. She is claiming that she ran 100 meters in just 5.97 seconds. Yes, you read that right. 5.97 seconds, which is an amazing 3.61 seconds faster than Usain Bolt.
In a now-deleted Instagram post, Britney explained to her followers that in her first attempt, she only hit 9 seconds. And her secret to knocking off 3 more seconds? She said that “getting over your fear is key.” It’s that simple, ya’ll.
She captioned her Instagram post using her cellular phone with, “Ran my first 5 !!!!”, that showed her with a stopwatch timer displaying 5.97 seconds. “Getting over your fear of pushing it in the beginning is key …. once I did that I hit 5 !!!!! Usually I run 6 or 7 …. my first try was 9 …. and now I did it whoop !!!!! 100 meter dash.”
With Britney Spears claiming to beat Usain Bolt, of all people, fans were understandably a bit puzzled. One fan said, “Is your distance correct? Lol Usain Bolts world record time for 100m dash is 9.58 seconds.”
Another fan added, “How far did you run I am confused Britney explain,” while a third expressed a little more faith, saying, “Fastest person to ever live.”
Yet another fan tried to correct Britney’s math for her. They said,
“I’m confused! 100 meter dash? You mean 50 meter dash? Or 40 yard dash? Something ain’t adding up. Sorry for being lost.”
After the news quickly began spreading of Britney breaking a world record, she deleted her prior Instagram post and replaced it with a new one, saying she was just kidding.
In a video of her changing into different outfits, she wrote: “Obviously I was joking about running the 100 meter dash in 5.97 seconds …. The world record is held by Usain Bolt which is 9.58 seconds …. but you better believe I’m coming for the world record 🙂 !!!! #joking.”
