Royal Rift: William and Harry’s Relationship Is Worse Than We Thought

This is a tale of two princes, of a rift between brothers that seems like something out of a fairy tale. But for William and Harry, it’s real life. Put down your cellphones and pick up your tea: This royal rift is much worse than we knew.

From Best Friends to Bitter Enemies?

When they were younger, Prince William and Prince Harry seemed to be the best of friends. Even after William finally settled down and married Kate Middleton, the trio was always laughing and smiling in photos as they carried out their Royal duties.

It seems as though things went sour around Christmas of 2018. Allegedly, there was friction between the brothers because Harry felt that William wasn’t doing enough to welcome Meghan to the family. The Cambridges and Sussexes ended up spending the holidays together, and all seemed to be well. For a while.

The tabloids were already in a frenzy to pit Kate and Meghan against each other, and there were rumors that William was having doubts about his brother’s choice of partner. Relations between the two couples remained cool for months on end. But we had no idea how bad things actually were between the brothers.

Harry Breaks the Unofficial Code of Silence

In October 2019, Harry admitted on camera that things had been strained between him and William. “But look, we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers. And we’re certainly on different paths at the moment, but I’ll always be there for him, as I know he’ll always be there for me,” Harry said.

For context, the Royal family does not talk about their feelings in public. They’re all about keeping calm and carrying on. Instead, Harry and his American-Canadian wife were giving interviews about how hard it was to be in the public eye.

Did Harry Choose Meghan Over His Family?

“Harry knows William’s mad at him for uprooting and leaving him to pick up the pieces. But the way Harry sees it, Meghan’s happiness is way more important….Harry’s fed up with being judged or expected to act a certain way,” a source told “Us Weekly.”

“Publicly, they’ve stopped short of trash-talking each other. But behind closed doors, they’re both filled with anger and resentment,” the source continued.

It’s not clear how much the rift between the brothers influenced Harry and Meghan’s decision to break from the Royal family in January of this year. However, now that they have some space from each other, we can only hope that the “anger and resentment” heals over time.
