Heather Locklear said “yes” when boyfriend Chris Heisser popped the question.
The news comes after the Melrose Place star was photographed with a diamond ring on her left hand.
Locklear and Heisser were high school sweethearts. They both graduated from Newbury Park High School in Los Angeles back in 1979.
The two former lovebirds reconnected and rekindled their romance in 2017, and have dated on and off since.
According to a close family friend, the couple has actually “been engaged since the end of April, as they were celebrating her year of sobriety.”
“They are really happy together,” the source continued. “Her family, her parents, her siblings, Richie [Sambora, her ex], and Ava [her daughter with Sambora] are all supporting her and are excited for her.”
The engagement news broke after Locklear was spotted running errands in Los Angeles. She was sporting a face mask that read, “I’m Smiling.” It seems like she had a few reasons to be happy, because she also had a large diamond ring on her finger.
On top of the engagement, Locklear also marked one year of sobriety in April. Last year, she completed 30 days in court-ordered rehab, after pleading no contest to misdemeanor battery charges that stemmed from altercations involving a police officer and an EMT.
Now, inside sources say that the actress is “in a great place.”
“She’s strong and clear-headed,” said one inside source, adding that Locklear now enjoys spending time with quieter pursuits, like gardening and cooking.
“She cooks for herself, Ava, and her parents,” continued the insider. “It’s very sweet. Her dad is close to 91, and her mom is in her 80s, and [Locklear] delivers food to them often.”
She also enjoys spending plenty of time with her 22-year-old daughter, Ava, whom she shares with ex Richie Sambora. Daughter Ava just recently graduated from Loyola Marymount University.
But it looks like the actress really “found a silver lining,” as a close friend told People, “After all the fame, she found her way back to a simpler life with the boy she dated in high school.”
In a really sweet turn of events, her friends say that Heisser has always really loved Locklear and believed she could get — and stay — sober. He has managed to help keep her on track, and provided plenty of support on her journey.
