Kelly Clarkson Files for Divorce From Brandon Blackstock

Kelly Clarkson quietly filed for divorce from husband Brandon Blackstock, after nearly seven years of marriage.

According to court documents, The Voice coach cited irreconcilable differences. The date of separation is listed as “TBD.”

Kelly and Brandon’s Troubles Amplified by Quarantining Together in Montana

The soon-to-be exes have been married since 2013, when they tied the knot in Blackberry Farms, Tennessee. They have two children together: 5 year-old River Rose and 4-year-old Remington Alexander. Brandon also has two children from his previous marriage to Melissa Ashworth.

One inside source told Entertainment Tonight that “those closest to them know it’s been difficult.”

It looks like trouble in paradise has actually been brewing for several months — and it was amplified by the coronavirus lockdowns.

“Kelly and Brandon had been having problems for several months and were making a conscious effort to work things out,” the source told the outlet. “They both hoped quarantining away from L.A. in Montana would help them work things out in their marriage, but instead the change in environment was actually detrimental.”

The couple were social distancing together on their ranch in Montana, where the 38-year-old was still filming episodes of The Kelly Clarkson Show remotely. It gave fans a glimpse into life at home with Brandon and their kids.

“It’s a really beautiful ranch and it’s a nice getaway for our family,” the American Idol winner shared. “It’s something Brandon and I have dreamed about since we were both kids. This is what we would call home.”

Unfortunately, all that extra time together may have only intensified the problems they were already facing. With no busy career to distract Kelly and keep her mind off things, “this recent downtime gave her the time she needed to think about her life and her marriage.”

Kelly Realized ‘Divorce Was Her Only Option’

And while the couple (understandably) dreaded starting the divorce process, the source added, “Kelly knew she just needed to follow her heart and finally realized divorce was her only option.”

Many fans are familiar with Kelly and Brandon’s seemingly-fairytale love story, which began at the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2006 when Kelly was rehearsing with Rascal Flatts. Brandon was serving as the group’s tour manager at the time.

Of course, the relationship didn’t take off until another meeting six years later. Within 10 months of dating, Brandon proposed. Kelly announced her engagement news in December 2012.

Since then, Kelly and Brandon have supported each other personally and professionally. This is why the news shocked their fans and some friends.
