Not even a global pandemic can keep the Kardashians from filming their reality show.

The Kardashian-Jenner clan continues to film Keeping Up With the Kardashians, even in quarantine — with new iPhones delivered weekly.

Not Even a Pandemic Can Stop the Kardashians From Filming

Many TV shows and movies have delayed production, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. However, Kris Jenner and fam aren’t about to leave their fans hanging.

Instead, they’re pushing forward with filming, thanks to some early pandemic planning between momager Kris and KUWTK executive producer Farnaz Farjam. The two came up with a new way of filming the reality show, while also ensuring the health and safety of everyone involved.

Kris proposed that the reality stars film themselves — no TV crew and face coverings required. And while that sounds simple enough, Farnaz admits that switching from a crew to self-recording has been a “big to-do.”

“If Kris gets annoyed and walks out of the camera angle, it’s not like we can follow her and continue shooting. She has to come back onto the screen and explain,” Farnaz said of the new format. “It’s less fly-on-the-wall, because we have to give them direction and they have to be more informative with us.”

Farnaz isn’t worried about the change in format, though.

“But because this is the Kardashians and they’re entertaining regardless, it will be a fun watch for people,” she explained.

So, How Does It Work?

At first, stars Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe were recording footage and sharing it to an album. The production team realized the low-quality footage wasn’t going to cut it.

To fix the quality problem, Farnaz hired a director of photography and a technician to help. Outfitted in hazmat suits, they configured brightly-lit rooms in the KUWTK stars’ homes. They also set up phone-friendly tripods, which were, of course, carefully cleaned and sanitized to prevent the transfer of any germs.

In order to film, a showrunner continuously brings the Kardashians new iPhones. They give the Kardashians the new phones and take the ones containing the recorded footage.

Predictably, Kourtney records the least. I’m sure everyone remembers Kourtney admitting that she is tired of filming for the reality show. And when she begrudgingly returned for the newest season, tensions over Kourtney’s desire to stay away from cameras turned into a fist fight.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, it sounds like Kim is stacking up plenty of footage for the production team.

“Watching Kim juggle four kids will be really relatable,” Farnaz admits. “No matter how big her house is, four kids is four kids. It’s a lot.”
