Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler are calling it quits.
The Very Cavallari star made the announcement on Sunday via Instagram that she and the former Chicago Bears quarterback have decided to divorce.
According to Kristin, the couple’s “loving conclusion” to divorce is “just the situation of two people growing apart.”
The emotional Instagram post that Kristin shared features a photo of herself and Jay walking with their arms wrapped around each other.
“With great sadness, after 10 years together we have come to a loving conclusion to get a divorce,” the reality star wrote. “We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of.”
She continues, “This is just the situation of two people growing apart. We ask everyone to respect our privacy as we navigate this difficult time within our family.”
On his own Instagram, Jay also shared a photo to make the announcement to his followers. It featured a black and white photo showing him and Kristin arm in arm.
The split comes after a decade together, including 7 years of marriage. They wed in 2013 in Nashville, TN, after dating on and off for a couple of years and becoming engaged in November 2011.
The couple shares three children together: Camden Jack Cutler, Jaxon Wyatt Cutler, and Saylor James Cutler.
News of the divorce may be shocking to fans. However, info from inside sources seem to paint a different picture of the relationship.
Speaking with E! News, one inside source says that the couple “brought up the idea of divorce several times in the past years before.”
They also added that now they’ve “ultimately decided they truly both aren’t happy.”
That same source also claims that “the kids definitely kept them together at times.”
News of their split comes only a month after they took the kids on a Bahamas getaway. Though, it’s worth noting that the pair apparently went through great lengths to be normal in front of the kids. Kristin mostly hung out with her BFF Justin Anderson.
It is unclear if any “big decisions” have been made yet in terms of splitting assets or living situations.
The split seems amicable as they continue to see each other and co-parent the kids together. It doesn’t seem likely that things will end with a bitter battle in court. At the same time, it’s probably time for the pair to start calling up divorce attorneys. An estate planning lawyer probably isn’t a bad idea, either.
The couple currently owns two homes in Nashville together, along with plenty of other assets — including Kristin’s fashion brand Uncommon James, and the reality TV show Very Cavallari, which they both starred in together.
