You Are Not Prepared for the Butt-Cut of ‘Cats’

‘Cats’ is truly the gift that keeps on giving. We were horrified and fascinated in equal measure by the trailers. Then the movie was so much worse than we could have imagined in all the best ways. And now, there’s… The Butthole Cut.

Wait, What?

Basically, the Butthole Cut is an internet rumor, started on Twitter, that the original version of ‘Cats’ included graphic sphincters for the animated felines. If you’re a cat owner, then you know that they’re really proud of their buttholes and will take every opportunity to show them off.

The rumor began when Seth Rogen was live-tweeting his viewing of the musical (and yes, Seth was stoned). Screenwriter Jack Waz replied to Seth with this tantalizing nugget:

A VFX producer friend of a friend was hired in November to finish some of the 400 effects shots in @catsmovie. His entire job was to remove CGI buttholes that had been inserted a few months before. Which means that, somewhere out there, there exists a butthole cut of Cats

Look, we’re all having a tough time right now. Many of us are stuck at home. Others are working on the front lines to ensure we all have food and healthcare. Perhaps that’s why #ReleaseTheButtholeCut became an internationally trending hashtag.

That’s a reference to the legendary Snyder Cut of “Justice League,” which allegedly captures the director’s vision for the film. But #ReleaseTheButtholeCut has taken on a life of its own.

Okay, But Is It True?

Snopes reports that the rumor is “unproven.” The myth-busting site shows an update from writer and producer Ben Mekler claimed that a friend of his who worked as part of the ‘Cats’ visual effects crew set the record straight. That VFX artist claimed that there were never any intentional buttholes in the movie.

However, the unnamed source claims that there were multiple shots where “the skin and fur sim was groomed or just folded in a way that really REALLY looked like very furry lady genitals and buttholes by accident.”

See for Yourself… If You Dare

Now, XVP Comedy has released their version of “The Butthole Cut” on YouTube. Before you watch the video below, I’ve been asked to remind you that people with weak hearts should not view this content. Daily Popstar is not responsible for clinical manifestations of afib while watching.

If you’re really REALLY sure you want to see it, then here’s the (totally unauthorized) Butthole Cut of ‘Cats’:
