Bindi Irwin, daughter of the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, is officially hitched!
The Australian conservationist married her longtime boyfriend and “best friend” Chandler Powell at the Australia Zoo. This was just hours before Australia’s crackdown on weddings and other large gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Bindi broke the news to her followers on Instagram. She posted a beautiful photo of herself in her wedding gown, kissing her new hubby at the Australia Zoo. The couple is surrounded by beautiful flowers in the Australia Zoo gardens. The post is marked with the date, “March 25th 2020.”
Bindi and Chandler had been engaged since Bindi’s birthday last year in July. They met six years prior to that. They first met at the Australia Zoo, and later became engaged in the same place. So, it seems pretty fitting that it was also where they decided to tie the knot.
Over the last year, Bindi has been excitedly planning her wedding day — even posting a sneak peek on Instagram of her wedding dress back in September. Showing off her engagement ring and the lacy sleeve, she captioned the photo, “I said yes to the dress.”
However, in light of current events involving the coronavirus outbreak, Bindi and Chandler unfortunately had to scrap most of their planning last minute. This included making the “difficult decision” to not have any wedding guests.
“We’ve planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything, as we didn’t have guests at our wedding,” Bindi wrote on Instagram. “This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe.”
It looks like those who were invited to the wedding will just have to watch on their cellphones. Luckily, there are plenty of photos and video of the intimate ceremony.
“We wish all of our friends and family could have been there with us, however it’s lovely that we will be able to share photos and videos,” she continued.
In her post, Bindi reveals that her mom, Terri, helped her get ready for the big day, while her brother, Robert, walked her down aisle. The family also lit a candle in honor of dad Steve Irwin.
Though the wedding wasn’t exactly how Bindi had planned, she still says that “there are no words to describe the amount of love and light” that she has in her heart after her “small ceremony.”
