It looks like the Mighty Ducks actor Shaun Weiss is on his way to getting the help he desperately needs.

He’s getting released from jail, and going straight into rehab.

Judge Approves a Motion to Release Weiss From Jail for Rehab

According to the D.A.’s office, a judge in Yuba County, California approved a motion to release the troubled actor from jail. But he won’t be free to go–Weiss is being released specifically so that he can check into a recovery facility to get the help he needs.

40-year-old Weiss, who was once known for his role as Greg Goldberg in the Mighty Ducks franchise, made headlines when his mugshot surfaced. He was nearly unrecognizable.

Weiss was arrested for burglary and meth, after cops responded to a call for a burglary in progress and found Weiss under the influence of methamphetamine. A homeowner called after finding an unknown man in his garage. Weiss had smashed the passenger-side window of the homeowner’s car, and was sitting inside the vehicle when law enforcement showed up.

But really, his latest arrest was just another chapter in his tragic downward spiral. Friends of the troubled actor say they’ve been desperate to get Weiss help before it’s too late, though drug treatment programs can be costly and Weiss has reportedly been living on the streets.

Following one of his previous arrests, Weiss announced that he was going to rehab, though it is unclear if he ever did.

A Wave of Support for Weiss

Luckily, there has been a wave of support for Weiss, both from his friends and from those who don’t even know him. Michael Lohan, Lindsay Lohan’s father, was among one of many in Hollywood who reached out to offer to cover Weiss’ treatment once he leaves jail.

TMZ reports that a prominent TV show reached out to Weiss’ team, though, and connected them to a rehab facility that will sponsor his recovery.

Weiss could be released from jail as early as Thursday, and will head straight to a hospital in Orange County for a full week of detox. After that, he will spend 90 days in a nearby rehab facility.

Following that, Weiss will take part in an intensive outpatient/partial aftercare sober house program, before he moves to a sober living home.

Aside from The Mighty Ducks, Weiss has also had roles in Freaks and GeeksBoy Meets World, and The King of Queens. His most recent role was back in 2008, in the comedy Drillbit Taylor.
