Demi Lovato describes herself as sexually fluid, and recently shared her coming-out story in an interview with Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM show Radio Andy.
It was 2017 when Demi first told her parents about how she was open to loving either a man or a woman, and she described the moment as being “really beautiful.”
“I’m still figuring it out,” she said to Cohen. “I didn’t officially tell my parents that I saw myself ending up possibly with a woman until 2017.”
“It was actually emotional, but really beautiful,” said Demi. “After everything was done, I was like shaking and crying. I just felt overwhelmed. I have such incredible parents. They were so supportive.”
She revealed that her dad wasn’t surprised at all, considering the lyrics to her song, “Cool for the Summer,” but she was especially nervous about confessing her preference to her mother.
“My mom was the one that I was super nervous about, but she was like, ‘I just want you to be happy.’ And that was so beautiful and amazing. I’m so grateful,” said Demi.
When questioned about the future and how she feels about the idea of becoming a mother someday, Demi replied:
“I don’t know what my future looks like. I don’t know if I’m going to have kids this year or in 10 years. I don’t know if I’m gonna do it with a partner or without because women don’t need partners. Amen!”
In another recent interview with eonline, Demi also mentioned how she’d like to start a family in the future and how she’s excited about the new music she plans to release.
“When I think of my future for the decade, I think at some point in this decade I want to start a family. That would be dope.”
“All of this is great and it’s beautiful and I’m lucky and I’m blessed and I’m grateful,” she continued. “But what I’ve learned, clearly, if all of this made you happy, I wouldn’t have ended up where I did.”
