There are hundreds of rappers out there, maybe even thousands, who stylize their stage name with the famous “Lil,” “L’il'” or “Li’l” prefix.
We thought it was about time to pit a few of these artists against each other in what we call, “The Battle of the Lils, Part I.”
Let the games begin, and be sure to vote for your favorite of these five Lils at the end!
Lil Yachty, AKA Miles Parks McCollum, rose to fame in 2015 when his singles “One Night” and “Minnesota” blew up on SoundCloud. He dropped out of Alabama State University that fall in order to pursue music.
Five years later he’s a model, a bit of a comedian and an incredibly rich rapper. He calls his style “bubblegum trap.”
Lil Nas X, who was born Montero Lamar Hill, had quite the 2019. His country rap single “Old Town Road” went viral on TikTok early in the year, and mere months later it became Diamond Certified. Not to mention, Obama included the single on his list of his favorite songs of 2019.
The rapper also made history when he came out as gay in June, then went on to earn six Grammy nominations. The artist said that he was raised to hate being homosexual, and it was important for him to come out before people thought he was doing it for attention.
He is the first person of color and the first openly gay performer that Forbes has ever listed on its annual ‘Highest-Paid Country Acts’ list.
It’s no wonder Lil Nas X has also been recognized by the GLAAD Media Awards. And I’m putting down bets that with his sense of humor, he’s going to have his own show by 2021.
wow man last year i was sleeping on my sisters floor, had no money, struggling to get plays on my music, suffering from daily headaches, now i’m gay.

What is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. up to these days? Well, in October he revealed his engagement to 26-year-old Australian model La’Tecia Thomas. Awwwww!
When Weezy isn’t tweeting about the Green Bay Packers (a good 74% of his tweets simply read, “GO PACK GO!!!!!!!!”) he’s hanging out with La’Tecia, who probably can’t stop staring at that gorgeous ring.
Kimberly Denise Jones has kept it pretty low-key since the days of the nineties when Biggie Smalls discovered her. She’s a pretty private person, as evidenced by the fact that we’re not sure if she’s 44 or 45 years old.
What do you think: Is Lil’ Kim still the Queen of Rap, or have Nicki Minaj and Cardi B made Lil’ Kim old news?
Lil’ Kim, considered by many to be a fashion icon, made headlines in October when anti-fur protestors publicly accused her of animal cruelty.
Lil Baby, also known as Dominique Armani Jones, was born in Atlanta, GA. He had a tough childhood and was selling drugs before he released his mixtape, “Perfect Timing” (2017) to commercial and critical acclaim.
He’s nominated for a Grammy this year for Best Rap/Sung Performance for his song “Drip Too Hard” featuring Gunna. He won the 2019 BET Award for Best New Artist.
He’s not to be confused with DaBaby, who’s made plenty of waves in his own right; but he’s not a Lil! However, they did put out an amazing song together in 2019, titled “Baby.”
