An actress who appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger was arrested on charges of second degree murder on Tuesday. She has been accused of fatally stabbing her own mother in Kansas.
Mollie Fitzgerald, a 38-year-old actress and director, was arrested on Tuesday by the Olathe Police Department. She is accused of attacking and killing her mother in her own home.
On December 20th, officers responded to a call of an armed disturbance. That’s when the officers found Mollie’s mother, Patricia “Tee” Fitzgerald, dead inside her Olathe home in the 10200 block of South Shadow Circle. She was 68 years old.
Mollie was then transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Olathe police have stated that they have identified everyone involved in the incident. However, the case remains under investigation, and no motive or any other additional details have been provided. Mollie is being held at the Johnson County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
Mollie Fitzgerald played the small role of “Stark Girl” in the box-office hit Captain America: The First Avenger, but she also served as an assistant to the film’s director, Joe Johnston.
During a 2011 interview, she said that working on the blockbuster film was a “once in a lifetime experience,” and that the movie “was a lot of fun to shoot.”
“Although my part is small in this film, I did get to work closely with Dominic Cooper for a few minutes and that was wonderful,” Mollie continued. “Joe Johnston is an unbelievable director, and I’ve learned a lot about directing from him. Being a part of this production has been one of the best experiences of my life.”
She has worked as a director and producer, mostly on independent short films such as The Lawful Truth in 2014 and The Creeps in 2017.
In her online obituary, the Fitzgerald family wrote, “Tee was one of the kindest people you could ever meet, she was always helping people and animals in need.”
A funeral for “Tee” Fitzgerald is being planned for Friday.
Mollie Fitzgerald is scheduled to appear in court Thursday afternoon.
