Kanye West is once again publicly airing his desire to be president of the United States.
On Thursday, the artist announced his plans to run for president in 2024.
The conversation was spurred during an interview at the Fast Company Innovation Festival in New York City.
“When I run for president in 2024, we’re going to definitely- yo, whatchu all laughing at?” West says to the giggling audience.
“When I run for president in 2024, we would’ve created so many jobs that, in fact, I’m not gonna run—I’m gonna walk,” he says, the crowd now silent.
“What I’m saying is, when y’all read the headlines, ‘Kanye’s crazy,’ this and that, this and that, it’s like, one in three African Americans are in jail. And all of the celebrities are in jail also, because they can’t say nothing! They’ve got no opinion! They’re so scared!”
In recent years, West has been increasingly vocal with his often-controversial opinions. As a Trump supporter, he draws significant ire from liberals and democrats.
However, he also draws serious respect from conservatives, as well as those who are tired of the status quo.
West has long been outspoken about his bipolar disorder and depression. Treatments like medication and even hospital stays inform both his art and his political views.
He continues, “Even after this, I’m gonna get in the car and be like ‘ahhh…’” he mimics heavy, labored breathing.
“Feeling like how I felt at the telethon after I said George Bush don’t care about black people. You know what I’m saying? I’m definitely gonna be riding, you know,” He laughs.
The interviewer then asked to pause West and turned the conversation back toward fashion, but it’s clear most folks would like to hear more about West’s presidential ambitions.
West’s close relationship with President Trump has many democrats uneasy.
However, we’re about four years away from knowing if West will actually run. He spoke of a presidential bid at the 2015 VMAs, but his 2020 ambitions were delayed–perhaps so that he could keep working on his recently-released album, Jesus Is King.
As wild as a Kanye West presidency may seem, Trump’s election has forever changed the possibilities of politics.
In four years, we might witness the inauguration of President West, with First Lady Kim Kardashian at his side.
