When a Son Leaves Home

Truett is TobyMac’s oldest son, who was born on September 4, 1998. TobyMac wrote about Truett in a song he released last year, “Scars (Come With Livin’)”. The song is about how their relationship changed once Truett left home.

The song lyrics are a tale of love and the sadness TobyMac felt for his son when he left to follow his dreams in the music business. We can only hope that during this time, when life has cut him so deeply, he remembers the words he once wrote,

“When life cuts so deep
Try and remember
You are not alone”
After releasing the song last year, TobyMac told The Tennessean, “He moved to L.A. and he’s making music and he’s doing his thing…But to watch him go through that, and watch him get bruised it’s not easy. So that’s one of the ways life has changed. In that song, I just want him to know he’s not alone.”
