Last month, Nicki Minaj said she was retiring, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping her from staying in the limelight or talking about future projects. At the launch of her new fashion collab, Fendi Prints On, the rapper let it slip that she and Adele are teaming up for another type of collaboration.
When an interviewer asked Minaj if she and the 15-time Grammy Award winner are working together or considering working together, Minaj responded with, “Yes and yes, yes and yes, whoo-hoo!”
The singer couldn’t keep the collaboration a secret–even though Adele specifically asked her not to spill the beans. Minaj said, “But Adele made me swear to secrecy that I’m not allowed to tell anyone that I’m working with her. And that we already shot a video. And it’s an epic song!”
On Wednesday morning, however, Minaj posted on Twitter saying, “Omg guys. I thought everyone could clearly see I was being sarcastic. Now I have to go to Adele’s studio & steal some files. Who’s in the UK? I got a job for you.”
Some fans think she just leaked the information and is now covering up for her mistake. If the details were a slip of the tongue, the song is likely on Adele’s next album. Considering that Minaj said they already did the video, the song could release soon.
Adele has not made a comment on working with Minaj, but she’s been open about her appreciation for the rapper’s work. She sang Minaj’s verse from the Kanye West song “Monster” while doing “Carpool Karaoke” with James Cordon in 2016 and performed the same song for party guests in June of this year in Los Angeles.
Minaj has also expressed her love of Adele’s songs by singing “Hello” on her Instagram stories.
Minaj has been doing collaborations with artists other than Adele lately. She has a song coming out on the Charlie’s Angels soundtrack, teaming up with Ariana Grande and Normani for “Bad to You.”
Talking about Grande, Minaj said, “I’m proud of her cause she executive produced that album and I’m proud to be a part of something that’s her baby.”
Her collaboration outside of music, of course, also includes her work with Fendi for the fashion line, which launched globally October 16th.
