Legendary rapper and R&B star Drake woke up to find out that his father, Dennis Graham, had given an interview to Nick Cannon on LA radio that alleged Drake “manufactured” drama.
Drake has rapped about how his father was often absent from his life, and how that contributed to the man he is today.
On the radio, Dennis Graham insisted in an interview with Nick Cannon that his son was making these stories up just to sell records. Drake, seeing this, posted on his Instagram story, claiming that his father’s words “hurt,” and that every bar he raps is the truth.
During his interview with Power 106, Dennis Graham claimed to have had a heart-to-heart with his son about the “manufactured” drama. “I said, ‘Drake, why are you saying all of this different stuff about me, man? This is not cool,'” the elder Graham alleged. “And he goes ‘Dad, it sells records.'”
Dennis went on to insist he was “always with” Drake, and that the allegations he wasn’t are painful for him. It is known that Drake’s parents split in the late ’80s and that he grew up in Toronto with his mother. What isn’t known is whether Drake’s claims of missed child support checks and an absent father are true.
After waking to the headlines, Drake took to Instagram to set the record straight for his fans. “Woke up today so hurt, man. My father will say anything to anyone that’s willing to listen to him,” Drake told his followers. “Every bar I ever spit was the truth and the truth is hard for some people to accept.”
Drake hasn’t been shy about laying out his grievances with his father. On the track “Look What You’ve Done,” a song dedicated to his parents, he lays out exactly what his father has done. “And my father living in Memphis now, he can’t come this way/Over some minor charges and child support that just wasn’t paid,” Drake raps.
Drake’s personal drama has never really stayed personal. Every time drama bubbles up for the Canadian superstar, it bubbles over into social media or tabloids. In the meantime, his fans eagerly await the next unfolding chapter for the rapper.
