Paul McCartney recently announced that he will be releasing two new songs. The never-before-heard tracks were cut from his most recent album, Egypt Station, which was both critically acclaimed and a Billboard hit.
McCartney has had an influential career, first with The Beatles, then as a solo artist, and then with other collaborations. He’s won 18 Grammys and was knighted by the Queen of England for his musical contributions.
His most recent album, Egypt Station, ranked #1 on Billboard charts and was the singer’s first solo album to hit #1. His new tracks are a continuation of that album and the singer’s legacy.
“Home Tonight” and “In a Hurry” were recorded during the sessions for Egypt Station. Like the rest of the album, these tracks were produced by Greg Kurstin. When he released the album, McCartney said, “Egypt Station starts off at the station on the first song and then each song is like a different station.”
Fans will likely enjoy getting to explore this unreleased material and how it would have related to the album if the tracks hadn’t been cut. To be clear, songs weren’t included in the deluxe edition released earlier in 2019. That expanded edition had 10 extra songs, live performances, unreleased tracks, and bonus cuts. These tracks have not been heard before.
The songs will be available for digital download on November 22nd. Fans can also buy a limited-edition, double A-side 7″ picture disk single on November 29th. There will be 12,000 copies of the picture disk available for sale, which is more than double what these releases typically have.
The picture disk will have artwork based on the game “Exquisite Corpse” and a lyric insert.
He may be almost 80, but Macca is not slowing down. This is not the only project the singer has been working on lately. He recently released Hey Grandude! a children’s picture book about a grandfather who takes his grandchildren on exciting adventures around the world. McCartney also provided the audiobook narration.
He’s still busy with music projects, too. He recently said that he’s hoping to have another album soon, and he’s reportedly working on songs for a musical version of Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life.
