At what point do you need a piece of paper to say that you’re committed to each other?
Find out why Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Hilarie Burton decided to get married after a decade together.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Walking Dead and Supernatural) and Hilarie Burton (One Tree Hill, White Collar) just tied the knot after 10 years as a couple.
They have 2 kids–9-year-old Gus and 19-month-old George–and own a farm in Upstate New York. That sounds pretty serious to me, but this weekend they decided to make it official.
Hilarie Burton dropped the news on Instagram: “[T]his past weekend was the best of my entire life. There are dozens of thank yous I need to make. So bear with me over the next week as I gush over the amazing group of people who gave us this beautiful moment. But before we do any of that, Jeff and I just want to put it out there that WE GOT MARRIED! For real.”
She says that people assume they were married for so long that they just sort of went with it instead of trying to explain their relationship:
“So it felt silly to try and correct anything. I love our intimate group of friends and family who joined us. I love the various circles of loved ones who have supported us over the years. It was private and magical and everything I dreamed. So yeah. I’m Mrs. Morgan. 10.5.19,” she wrote.
The actress shared a few artsy black-and-white photos from the ceremony on her Instagram, as well as giving their fans some insight into why they decided to get married.
“We’ve lived as husband and wife for a decade. We’ve built a family, and a farm and found our community. For years, publications have reported that we got married in 2014 or 2015 and that I’ve been married and divorced before. All untrue. But WE knew our truth,” the newly minted Mrs. Morgan explained.
“Here’s the God’s honest fact: From the moment I met @jeffreydeanmorgan, he was my husband. Rather than make vows right out of the gate, we lived them. For over ten years. The good times and the bad. Standing up there with our children at our sides – celebrating all that has been – was bliss. I love you Jeffrey.”
That’s really sweet!
Certainly much more romantic than that ghost sex storyline on Grey’s Anatomy between Jeffery Dean Morgan and Katherine Heigl. We’ll never forget that.
And as one of the few cast members of The Walking Dead who looks like he actually uses body wash on a regular basis, JDM continues to be one of the sexiest men on television.
Mrs. Morgan ain’t too bad herself; although she has had fewer high-profile roles in her career, she continues to work pretty steadily in TV.
Congrats to the happy couple! Now let’s just hope they don’t end up divorcing in a year.
Isn’t that the way it always seems to go with couples who were together forever and then suddenly decided to get married?
