Break out the sparkle water and fire up the barbecue at Balmoral Castle — Princess Beatrice is getting hitched! The eldest daughter of the (disgraced) Duke of York and Fergie made the announcement on Instagram Wednesday morning.
Princess Beatrice (31) has been waiting for her fairytale wedding for quite a while. She was previously in a long-term relationship with David Clarke, but they split in 2016 after a decade together. When her younger sister, Princess Eugenie (now 29), got married last October, Royal gossips started to wonder if Bea would ever walk down the aisle.
Apparently, Bea reconnected with an old family friend at Eug’s wedding and fell hard for Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, affectionately known by the nickname Edo. The 34-year-old real estate magnate and philanthropist isn’t royal, but his father was an Italian aristo and his step-dad was a prominent Tory politician. With that pedigree — and his multi-million-dollar fortune — Edo met with the Firm’s seal of approval.
After dating for less than a year, he popped the question in Rome last month. Edo split with his previous fiancee, glamorous Chinese-American architect Dara Huang, sometime last year. It’s rumored that Edo and Dara, although no longer romantically linked at the time, were still living together with their young son when he fell for Beatrice.
The official announcement arrived on the Royal Family Instagram account, showcasing photos of the delighted couple snapped by Princess Eugenie.
“We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement. We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married,” read the couple’s PR-approved statement.
“We share so many similar interests and values and we know that this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness.”
The ring is estimated to be a 3.5-carat round-cut diamond, flanked by two diamond baguettes. While colored stones are more common for Royal brides lately, including Kate’s iconic blue sapphire engagement ring and Eugenie’s pink sapphire, Beatrice opted for a more modern, American-style diamond.
Princess Eugenie jumped the gun by congratulating her sister before the official word was released. In a now-deleted post, Eugenie gushed, “Beabea – wow! I’m so happy for you my dearest big sissy and dear Edo. It’s been a long time coming and you two are meant to be. (camera emoji) by me!!”
Like Duchess Kate, Eug fancies herself a keen amateur photographer, and her snaps are the only engagement photos available of Beatrice and Edoardo. However, you can expect that they’ll do a professional photoshoot at some point in the near future.
The couple plans to tie the knot in 2020. Royal watchers say it’s likely they’ll wed in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, the same venue where Harry and Meghan, as well as Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, tied the knot last year.
Hopefully, Andrew’s dirty laundry will have finished airing by then. Beatrice and Eugenie’s father is at the forefront of the Jeffery Epstein scandal and has been accused of participating in Epstein’s (alleged) sex trafficking ring. Their mother also caused a major scandal when she was caught trying to sell access to her ex-husband by an undercover journalist. Fergie also borrowed money from Epstein several years ago to cover her debts.
