T-Swift dishes about her feud with Kanye West, and calls the rapper “two-faced” in a new interview.
In case you were wondering, that feud between Taylor Swift and Kanye West is still going strong, even a decade later. In fact, I’m not sure that bad blood will ever go away entirely.
During a new interview with Rolling Stone, Swift discussed the inspiration behind her latest album and her life over the last few years, but you wouldn’t need to be a psychic reader to predict that the conversation would soon turn to that infamous feud between her and Kanye.
And for the first time, Swift opened up about her turbulent relationship with the rapper.
I think it is safe to assume that everyone remembers that fateful moment at the 2009 Video Music Awards, when Kanye interrupted Swift’s onstage acceptance speech after she won the Best Female Video.
Kanye infamously protested Swift’s victory, because he felt like Beyoncé deserved to win for what he deemed “one of the best videos of all time.” It was the “I’mma let you finish” heard ’round the world.
Kanye must have really hurt Swift’s feelings, because in the new interview, she recalls that all she ever wanted for her whole career following the VMA incident was for Kanye to respect her.
“When someone doesn’t respect you so loudly and says you literally don’t deserve to be here–I just so badly wanted that respect from him,” Swift said.
After a while, things started to appear friendly again, and there were even some collaboration rumors swirling around. Swift claims that the pair would occasionally go to dinner, and Kanye would “say really nice things” about Swift’s music.
Then came the 2015 VMAs, though, where Swift was slated to present Kanye with his 2015 Vanguard Award. According to Swift, Kanye himself called her up to suggest that she do it. But at the awards show, Kanye stood in front of all those people and told them that MTV had gotten her to do it to boost ratings.
“I realized he is so two-faced.” She says about Kanye. After that, things clearly went downhill quickly, with Kanye’s track “Famous” and Kanye’s wife publicly releasing an audio recording from a phone conversation with Swift.
Swift has decided that she is done trying to reconcile with the rapper, saying she “got really sick of the dynamic” between them.
So, basically, what Swift is saying here, is that we will have the Taylor Swift and Kanye West feud to look forward to for years to come.
