The clash between Avengers star Jeremy Renner and his ex-wife, Canadian model Sonni Pacheco, just turned nasty. She’s now seeking sole custody of their 6-year-old daughter.
The acrimonious exes met when Pacheco was an extra on the set of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. After three years of undercover dating–and welcoming daughter Ava–they secretly married in 2014. When a reporter finally spotted Renner with a wedding ring and asked for the juicy details, he replied, “I have tried to protect my family’s privacy, my wife’s privacy. I don’t need her to get hampered with my life. It’s annoying being followed when I’m with my family.”
Unfortunately, the marriage lasted only 10 months. Pacheco filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, and agreed to a joint custody agreement. All seemed pretty standard for a Hollywood divorce–except that Pacheco also accused Renner of hiding her passport, birth certificate, and social security card. She also requested that their prenup be canceled because of fraud. He, in turn, accused her of being a gold-digger.
Incidentally, Pacheco is 20 years younger than her ex-husband. Renner is fixin’ to turn 49 in January, if you can believe it! With his baby face, he looks younger–but you know that the Avengers cast had access to all the best spa treatments and dry skin moisturizers money can buy, too.
Sonni Pacheco filed a request for sole legal and physical custody of 6-year-old Ava Berlin on September 10. She also requested that Renner’s visits with his daughter be monitored. It’s not clear why she decided to file the court petition now. However, she is set to provide documents to support her request before the first hearing in early November.
Sources claim that during the divorce, Renner was concerned that Pacheco would flee the country with Ava and that’s why he hid her passport. However, in the years since their bitter divorce, we haven’t heard any rumors about Renner failing to pay child support (which clocks in at $13,000 a month) or any other reason why their custody arrangement should change. Pacheco did accuse Renner of leaving a firearm out in his home, but he insists that he always keeps his guns safely locked up.
Renner, for his part, has gone on record many times about how much he loves his kid. As recently as January 2018, he told reporters from the Independent, “Being a father is number one. That’s what keeps me focused, and not worrying about whether movies may or may not come my way.”
