PewDiePie announced his marriage on Instagram today, sharing that he and his long-time girlfriend Marzia Bisognin have finally wed. The two chose their date carefully – exactly 8 years from the first time they met.
PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, is one of YouTube’s biggest stars and has been for quite some time. The couple wed in an intimate ceremony, and the pictures are stunning.
The couple has been together for 8 years, but their romance isn’t exactly normal. They met after a friend told Bisognin to watch “this idiot play video games”, referring to PewDiePie’s YouTube channel. She messaged him saying that she found his videos funny, and they formed a connection.
PewDiePie asked her to marry him in April of 2018, according to her Instagram, and they began planning the wedding.
The ceremony was intimate and involved close friends and family. The photographs from the event that they both have shared appear to be from the Temperate House, which is the world’s largest Victorian glasshouse in the Royal Botanical Gardens.
Pictures the bride shared show the ceremony was incredibly small, with only a handful of people around the alter. Kjellberg wore all black and looked very sharp, while Bisognin had a gorgeous white princess dress with long lace sleeves, a fitted top, and dozens of yards of tulle for volume in the skirt. Her veil reached the floor.
Bisognin shared on her Instagram that she was “incredibly ecstatic” to call PewDiePie her husband for the rest of her life, and she feels like she is the “luckiest person”. Felix feels the same – in his post, he shared that he is the “happiest” he can be.
If you don’t spend a lot of time in YouTube circles, you might be confused at why these two are making headlines.
PewDiePie isn’t going to be punching an employee timesheet or getting a ‘real’ job anytime soon. His net worth is estimated to be somewhere between $30-$50 million, which isn’t bad for a 30-year-old who plays video games for a living.
He was once the top watched YouTube channel; he has dropped in popularity in recent years after a scandal in 2017 that left him shedding millions of viewers. He is still the second-highest subscribed channel on the platform, however, and is estimated to be the 9th-highest paid YouTuber at the moment.
His scandals in the past few years include racist language and vocal anti-Semitic followership, though he himself has never encouraged that. After the shooting in March of 2019 in Christchurch, New Zealand, the gunman urged those watching to “subscribe” to PewDiePie’s channel.
