When it comes to DC movies, Warner Bros. has been hard-pressed to compete with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now fans are seriously wondering what the heck their plans really are.
People were already questioning DC’s decisions when it came to casting for the new Batman flick. With Twilight’s Robert Pattinson set to portray the titular caped crusader, few have been able to take them seriously.
So, really, why shouldn’t they cast Nicki Minaj as Catwoman?
Yes, Pattinson has a decent enough jawline to play Batman, but many remain unconvinced he’s right for the part. As one might imagine, there have been plenty of “sparkly Batman” jokes.
However, just because he once starred as a glittery vampire doesn’t mean he lacks the acting chops to be Batman. Perhaps we should give him the benefit of the doubt. After all, director Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes, Cloverfield) believes in him.
…but does he believe in Nicki Minaj as Catwoman? That’s the real question folks are asking now.
Better call those roofing contractors, because with curves like those, we’re struggling to imagine Minaj slinking around city rooftops. Though better known for twerking than sneaking, some fans think the rap queen is purrfect for the part.
Her response? Well, it looks like she might genuinely be ready to pounce on the role.
“I’m ready,” she tweeted, “Ha!”
Warner Bros. hasn’t confirmed any rumors about who might play Selina Kyle, so the role may still be open, too.
Whether or not the studio is still on the prowl for the next Catwoman, there’s been no shortage of suggestions.
Names that have surfaced in rumors include Aubrey Plaza, Morena Baccarin, and Vanessa Hudgens for starters. Former Twilight love interest Kristen Stewart has also been named by some as a potential option. (You know, because of that intense chemistry, obviously)
Vanessa Kirby recently addressed the rumors that she might be in the running, too. Though some speculated she might be a top pick, she said she hasn’t heard anything about it.
“Oh my god, it would be a dream,” she added, noting that she’d have to start doing “lots of squats.”
Screen Rant threw out some additional names for consideration, too. Their picks include Zoë Kravitz, Ruth Negga, Rebecca Ferguson, Sofia Boutella, Jodie Comer, Olivia Wilde and even Kirby’s Crown co-star Claire Foy.
Again, there’s no official word, or even any legitimate hints, as to who could fill Catwoman’s claws yet.
So far, IMDB only lists a single cast member for The Batman – and that’s Pattinson.
With the movie not coming out until the summer of 2021, it may be some time before we know the full cast.
