Yesterday we got our first real look at the upcoming sequel to 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
The next installment in the Jumanji franchise reunites the videogame heroes played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Karen Gillian, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black. And the trailer has certainly given us a lot of insight into how the new film will shake things up.
The premise remains the same, however, there have been some significant changes.
Again, we’ll find the same characters – Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Ruby Roundhouse, Franklin “Mouse” Finbar, and Professor Shelden Oberon. But this time, the players are somewhat different.
We learn that Spencer (Alex Wolff) has apparently attempted to repair the game console – and has disappeared into the game. Now, it’s up to his friends to save him – or, it should be anyway.
Though Martha (Morgan Turner) and Fridge (Ser’Darius Blain) are transported in, Bethany (Madison Iseman) appears to be missing. Spencer isn’t Bravestone, and Fridge winds up playing as Professor Oberon – a different character than last time.
While Martha again finds herself controlling Ruby Roundhouse, she’s the only player that’s returned to the same character.
So, with Spencer and Bethany missing, we’ve now learned just who will take their place as the other two characters.
Enter actors Danny DeVito and Danny Glover. The two play Spencer’s grandfather Eddie and his friend Milo, respectively. And yes, these two old dudes are going to have to learn how to play Jumanji if they want to survive.
In essence, we’ll see Hart and Johnson channeling characters portrayed by Glover and DeVito. And, honestly, we can’t wait to see how that all comes together.
Jumanji: The Next Level hits theaters nationwide on December 13.
