Notoriously single Keanu Reeves recently revealed to media that he is not as content with being a bachelor as we have been led to believe in the past.
In an interview with The Jakarta Post, Reeves was asked what love means to him, and his response wasn’t what most might expect.
“You mean romantic love? You know, I’m the lonely guy. I don’t have anyone in my life. But if it does occur, I would respect and love the other person; hopefully, it’ll happen for me.”
When Reeves was asked to speak more on this, and how his solitude might affect him, he responded with, “I’m an actor, so in terms of what you’re asking about, I have no answer.”
Reeves is a man in Hollywood that has been perpetually single – and private about that fact – for a long time. The new Clooney style bachelor, Reeves hasn’t appeared to have a serious relationship since 1999, when tragedy struck his life.
On December 24th of 1999, Reeves then-girlfriend Jennifer Syme gave birth 8 months into their pregnancy, but their daughter Ava Archer Syme-Reeves was stillborn. The loss of their first child shook both parents, and their relationship crumbled only weeks later. In April of 2001, Syme was driving alone in Los Angeles when she sideswiped three cars, rolled several times and ultimately died instantly on impact.
Reeves was at the then-peak of his career, scheduled to film the Matrix sequels back-to-back, but required time to process this loss in his life.
Despite the lack of a significant other, Keanu Reeves has seen great personal and professional success in Hollywood over the years. He is a notoriously generous person, choosing to not attach his name to a cancer charity he set up and giving roughly $80 million of the $114 million in earnings he received from the two Matrix sequels to the makeup and special effects staff.
John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum was released in theaters May 17th, and has already grossed over $100 million. In it Reeves plays the title character who is a highly trained and capable assassin trying to survive with a $14 million bounty on his head.
