Yes, friends, the pop star and American Idol judge just dropped a brand, spankin’ new single titled Never Really Over.

The new song’s title and cover art were revealed on May 28, 2019, via Instagram. On May 29, she debuted the track at a “Katy Perry Fan Event” and shared a teaser on Instagram. Also, Good Morning America teased the video on May 30.

‘Never Really Over’ Video

The video, which was filmed near Malibu, features Katy sporting a new hairstyle of long, flowing blonde locks. Suffering from a broken heart, she checks into a sort of retreat-like rehab facility. There, she undergoes several bizarre treatments to help aid in her recovery.

Eventually, she channels her inner Kate Bush vibes for an ultra-boho frolicking dance through some wide-open fields. As Billboard suggested, “It’s a proper trip.”

Engagement to Orlando Bloom

Of course, while her latest video seems to be about getting over a love lost, it doesn’t appear to be a parallel Katy’s real life.

On Valentine’s Day, Katy and fiance Orlando Bloom announced their engagement on Instagram. And while they may be taking it slow in terms of planning, they do seem quite happy together.

When asked why the couple isn’t rushing into anything, Katy explained that they’re “trying to lay the good emotional foundation for the lifetime of commitment.” This, she added, “is, like, a big deal.”

The two have both been married and divorced previously – Katy to Russell Brand and Orlando to Miranda Kerr.

Song & Video Credits

The song was produced by her 365 collaborator Zedd alongside Dreamlab and Farrago and has a whole host of co-writers. They include the aforementioned producers as well as Perry herself, Hayley Warner, Dan Haywood, Dagny, Jason Gill, and Michelle Buzz. (Dreamlab is made up of Leah Haywood and Daniel James.)

The video, which was released May 31, was directed by Philippa Price. Known for her creative work in the fashion industry and with singer/songwriter Banks, Price is also the creative director for Savage X Fenty by Rihanna.
