Thousands Sign a Petition for This Beloved Star to Become the Next Wolverine

Marvel needs a new actor to play Wolverine, and the internet has just the guy.

Although there’s been near constant guess-work as to who might be a worthy replacement for Hugh Jackman, one petition with nearly 20,000 signatures thinks Danny DeVito should don Wolverine’s claws next.

‘The Only Man Able to Take the Throne’

The petition’s creator argues that the actor is “the only man able to take the throne after Hugh Jackman. We believe that if Wolverine is to make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that the only man able to pull it off is Danny DeVito.”

Another commenter convincingly suggests that “Danny Devito is the best actor of all time, and can play any role. If he can play Arnold Schwarzenegger’s twin brother, he can play Logan being the best at what he does.”

You can totally see it, right?

One fan claimed signing the petition was “the most important cause I’ve ever supported.” Another called DeVito “the voice of our generation.”

Not That Crazy An Idea?

While many of the signee’s comments are certainly tongue-in-cheek, there would be some precedent to DeVito starring in a superhero movie: in 1992, the 4’11” star played villain The Penguin in Batman Returns.

The actor certainly has the temper to play Logan, too, as exemplified by his character Frank in hit TV series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. He’s already The Warthog, after all.

X-Men and the MCU

While the X-Men had previously not been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that may change. Prior to Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, they had not had the rights to the characters. Now they do.

Jackman is done donning the hero’s claws though. The role had taken quite a physical toll on the Australian actor, as it required a lot of bulking up. So, now it’s time for a new actor would have to step in.

Who that will actually be, of course, hasn’t yet been decided by the powers that be. At least, not to our knowledge.

Will the petition have an effect on Disney execs? Who knows, but it’s certainly fun to imagine DeVito in the role.
