Hayden Panettiere, the petite, blonde star of Nashville and Heroes, made headlines this week with a strange story. Gossip outlets–including the staff at DailyPopStar–can’t quite puzzle it out.
Here’s what we know.
Hayden appeared on the cover of Us Magazine this week with the headline “Why She Gave Up Her Daughter.” The magazine alleged that Hayden’s 4-year-old little girl, Kaya, was safer living with her dad and grandmother in Ukraine.
The reason? Hayden’s supposed “wild behavior with new bad boy” that is spiraling out of control.
Well, that doesn’t sound good. The bad boy in question is Brian Hickerson. Late last year, the cops were called to break up a domestic incident at the home of Brian’s father. TMZ uncovered the police report on the incident, in which Brian was was slapped in handcuffs after getting into a physical altercation with his dad. Hayden was apparently the one who called the police.
There are more red flags to their relationship, including the time Brian admitted that he’ll sometimes steal Hayden’s credit cards to go on a shopping spree. He later claimed this was a joke, but that’s a weird “joke” to make, don’t you think? Especially since he was being sued by his credit company for $13,000 in unpaid bills at the time.
Where things get really interesting is that Hayden also popped up in a People profile about her relationship with a much more positive spin. The anonymous source said, “Hayden really likes Brian, has a great time with him, and the romance has gone past a dalliance.”
Who talks like that? And what about the further comments from this anonymous source that Hayden might not be too serious about Brian? The source claimed that Hayden is planning to focus on herself and “spend as much time with her daughter as she can.”
I’m not saying that this is definitely a publicist trying to offer a counter-narrative to the Us Weekly piece. But it sounds that way, doesn’t it?
Brian Hickerson also found a way to issue a public statement. He told Access that “Hayden’s friends and family are not worried about her at all. Hayden is happy and healthy and so is our relationship.”
Hayden’s daughter has been living with dad Wladimir Klitschko, a retired boxing champion, in his native Ukraine. His mother has been helping him raise the little girl. Hayden and Wladimir were together for 9 years and ended their relationship in mid-2018.
Us Weekly‘s source claims that Hayden “knows the child being with her is not the best. It’s a sad situation.” After the birth of their daughter, Hayden revealed that she had suffered severe post-partum depression.
It’s possible that Hayden’s choice not to be a full-time parent to Kaya is related. Neither Hayden nor Wladimir have made any official statements yet, but watch this space for updates.
