Cardi B and Migos’ Offset are no longer a couple. But the breakup is… surprisingly drama-free? Considering the way Cardi beefs with her rivals like Nicki Minaj, she’s keeping things unusually classy.
We all know Cardi is a bit of a drama queen. When she’s not picking fights through her lyrics, she’s literally throwing down at strip clubs or after-parties.
In fact, earlier this week she skipped a New York court date regarding that strip club assault. Instead, she was in Miami, frolicking on the beach while wearing tiger body paint.
You can see why we were expecting major drama with this divorce announcement, but things are very civil. So far, anyway!
Longtime fans of the rapper know that Cardi and Offset have been through some messy moments. During their 2-year-ish relationship, the couple served up equal amounts of gossip fodder and hot musical collaborations.
If you were surprised to find out they were married, you’re not the only one! Although he proposed with a $500,000 ring during a sold-out show in Philadelphia, the ceremony itself was private. They quietly married in September 2017 and welcomed a daughter, Kulture Kiari Cephus, in July of this year.
In December of 2017–just months after they married–video evidence surfaced of what appeared to be Offset in bed with a naked woman who was not his wife.
Cardi was candid with interviewers who wanted to know why she wanted to stay with a cheater. “I want to work out my sh*t with my man, and I don’t got to explain why,” she told Cosmopolitan in March of this year.
Now, TMZ is reporting that Offset was angling for a threesome with a rapper named Cuban Doll and a model who goes by “Summer Bunni.” The gossip site has the receipts in the form of a text chain and a snap of their FaceTime conversation.
It’s not clear whether Cardi B and Offset were even still together in June 2018, so who knows? Cardi would have been pregnant with their daughter at the time, but she was flying solo at high-profile events months before that.
Cardi B announced the split on her Instagram page with a thoughtful message. It sounds like she’s finally worked things out and decided she and Offset make better friends and collaborators than spouses.
“I’ve been trying to work things out with my baby father for how many now. And we’re really good friends and really good business partners.”
“We’ve got a lot of love for each other but things just haven’t been working out for us for a long time. It’s nobody’s fault. I just guess we grew out of love. But we’re not together anymore.”
That’s an attitude more Hollywood couples could try out during a split.
